Welcome to 5th Grade!

Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I believe that my purpose every day is to use this gift to help my students become the best version of themselves which goes far beyond their academic success.  It is my goal to help everyone dig deep to see their own gifts and talents.  I will be here to offer support and guidance to assist your child in understanding the 5th grade curriculum.  However, I believe that our purpose extends far beyond anything we can be taught sitting in a classroom. I am just one piece of a bigger puzzle for each of my students.  Therefore, it is important to me that we work as a team to help your child have a successful and memorable 5th grade year.

I have had the pleasure of teaching 5th grade for the past 11 years.  My journey began here in Wake County at Wildwood Forest Elementary School and has continued here at Sycamore Creek.  I have spent these years learning how I can utilize my skills to help each person grasp academic concepts as well as grow socially and emotionally through the ups and downs of 5th grade.   I firmly believe in order to be the best teacher I can be for my students, that it requires me to also continue learning.  Therefore, in 2010 I embarked on the journey of becoming Nationally Board Certified and in 2013, I finished my Master’s Degree in educational leadership at NC State University (Go Pack!)

In my spare time, I enjoy learning about digital photography!  It is extremely rewarding to see how a moment in time can be so powerfully captured in a still photograph.  In addition to taking pictures, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two girls, and sweet dog!  I also enjoy some quiet time, exercising, reading a good book or crafting.  Unfortunately, finding time to do any of these things can be a challenge.

I’m looking forward to this amazing journey we are all about to take together.  It is important we work as a team and communicate openly with one another.  Therefore, you can always reach me by phone, email or Class Dojo (more information to come).  I appreciate all that you do to help your child understand the importance of being present, attentive and hard working.    Let’s make this the most memorable year yet; it is their last as a crocodile!

Sincerely,

Kylie Edmister
